This lovely platter is made from a single piece of English Burr Oak. A 'burr is a large knotty section of the tree, forming some lovely grain swirls and intricate decorative knots. Within the burr there are often small voids and cracks, these have been filled with food safe resin which contrasts beautifully with the colour of the wood. It also features a small tie detail across a split, again filled with resin.

It is a really useful size, use as either a generous cheese/presentation board or a prep board. Oak is not only beautiful but incredibly tough, making it perfect for boards.

Need to know

Dimensions - 44cm x 27cm at its widest x 3cm

All of our boards are made from a single solid piece of wood. Jon works with the Japanese 'wabi sabi' influence in mind. That is, every piece of wood has its own story, patina, blemishes and quirks. A natural living thing, it is the tree that dictates the outcome not us.

Please take the following into consideration: over time there is a possibility that all wooden boards may twist or curl a little - whether one of ours or a different maker. They respond to the environment around them and modern houses with central heating can create a very dry atmosphere or if left in the sun. It's worth noting that all professional chef's place tea towels under their boards to ensure no slipping or rocking. Wash if needed and dry immediately DO NOT put in the dishwasher. I treat my boards with linseed oil to give a protective finish, if it starts to look a little dry it will benefit from another oil application. Linseed oil is best or any proprietary board oil or try our wood balm, available here.
