Description

Perfect for serving crostini, bruschetta, or olives and cheese. It's also a handy size for cutting and serving a crusty baguette, or for chopping herbs and garlic.

Hand cut from locally sourced reclaimed oak, these paddle like boards are then lightly charred around the edges, with a charred black handle. Charring or Yakisugi is a traditional Japanese technique of colouring, sealing, and preserving wood using only fire. The boards are then combed, sanded, washed, and rubbed down with a natural oil. Using oak that has been salvaged, fire to colour and preserve, and natural oils to finish, means that these lovely boards are 100% natural, and environmentally friendly.

Founder Hayley with mucky hands from the Yakisugi charring process

Artshed Brighton

Brighton, East Sussex

Hi, I’m Hayley - a maker, obsessed with cooking, and seeing food beautifully presented.

I’ve been transforming wood, fabrics, and furniture for over 20 years, working mainly on commissions and with chefs and event designers.

Since moving to the UK in 2016, Yakisugi (or charring) has been the focus of my work.

Each item in my wooden tableware collection is designed to accentuate the colour and texture of food, as it contrasts so beautifully with the charred wood.
