Tinsel epitomises Christmas. On the one hand, it's a gorgeous thing that drapes and glitters and sparkles. On the other, it's a mass produced PVC horror show that many are glad to sacrifice to landfill come January.

Inspired by the spikey off-snips of string from my other projects, I may have come up with a sustainable solution… Strinsel – string tinsel made by me at my old oak dining table, from nothing but cotton string and thread.

This Original Strinsel will always be my favourite. I remember realising that it actually resembled snow on the boughs of a Christmas tree, rather than an old mop as I had initially feared. Strinsel now has heirloom status in our house, wrapped in tissue and stored in the attic, ready for yet another Next Christmas.

Each length of Original Strinsel is approximately 2 metres. It should not be cut to size, otherwise it will all unravel and your floor will resemble the aftermath of a ticker tape parade. If you require a shorter length, feel free to contact me to discuss the option of creating a custom order.

Original Strinsel must be kept a minimum of 1 metre away from fire, flame and other heat sources. Please do bear this in mind, especially if you use candles and/or fires (real flame or otherwise) at Christmas time. I don't use fire retardants on any of my products, but these are available to buy elsewhere in spray form should you want extra piece of mind or intend on using Strinsel in areas where this is required by law or legislation. Legally, I'm not able to offer fire retarding as a service, nor am I able to advise on this matter.

Original Strinsel is made using Everlasto 100% Polished Cotton Twine. Everlasto products were developed at the James Lever Factory in Bolton, UK, where they've been manufacturing twine, cord and rope for over 150 years.

I keep marketing materials to a minimum and all packaging I use can be re-used, composted and/or widely recycled.
