Imagine the excitement of opening a box which contains everything that you need to knit an adorable budgie!

This beautifully presented Sparky the Budgie knit kit is handmade in the Scottish Highlands, and contains all the yarn and notions that you need to knit Sparky the blue budgie - add your own pair of 4mm (UK 8/ US 6) knitting needles, a yarn darning needle and an ordinary sewing needle, and you're ready to go. No need to order all the different yarns and bits and pieces – you can sit back, relax, and start knitting straight away. It's all there for you!

Sparky the budgerigar is 23cm tall, which is about the size of a real budgie/parakeet. So when you've finished knitting him, he's going to be the perfect size to sit and keep you company – and his little posable wire feet mean that he can cling to the object of your choice!

Sparky is based on my much-loved childhood budgie companion. He brings me many happy memories of my sweet and charming pet, and I hope he will do the same for you, too.

Your budgie knitting kit is presented in a large, stylish gift box, and bundled up in plastic-free, recyclable packaging. This bird knit kit is the perfect, original gift for a knitter, birder, or budgie fan - they'll love knitting Sparky, and the kit includes a cute Pretty Boy budgie button badge for them to wear, too!

Need to know

Is Sparky suitable for beginners? I’d say that he’s a great project for beginners with a little experience of making up knitted toys. He is simply knitted flat on a pair of 4mm(UK 8/ US 6) knitting needles, making him an excellent project for a beginner who knows the basics of knitting: no need to knit in the round. Basic skills that you need to know: stocking stitch, increasing by knitting into the front and back of a stitch (inc 1) and decreasing by knitting 2 stitches together (k2tog). There’s colour-changing on some rows, so you will need to use Intarsia technique to change yarns mid-row. The 6-page knitting pattern includes detailed making up instructions and many colour photos to help you on your way. I've included a tutorial on making wire legs, too!

Knitting needles and darning needles are not included as many knitters already own a pair - but if you'd like to add these to your kit, a pair of 4mm Pony aluminium knitting needles are £2, and a pack of 2 Pony darning needles are £1.

All kit and parcel packaging is plastic-free, and recyclable.

The gift box measures 28cm x 19cm x 8cm.
