Need to Know
- Is Sparky suitable for beginners?
- He’s a great project for beginners with a little experience of making up knitted toys.
- He is simply knitted flat on a pair of 4mm (UK 8/ US 6) knitting needles, with no need to knit in the round.
- Basic skills you need: stocking stitch, increasing by knitting into the front and back of a stitch (inc 1) and decreasing by knitting 2 stitches together (k2tog).
- There’s colour-changing on some rows, so you will need to use Intarsia technique to change yarns mid-row.
- The 6-page knitting pattern includes detailed making up instructions, many colour photos, and a tutorial on making wire legs.
- Kit contents: A full colour 6-page printed knitting pattern; 5 colours of high quality, soft DK acrylic yarn; 2 colours of 2 ply wool yarn; polyester toy stuffing; black beads; black cotton thread; pipe cleaner; copper craft wire; a 38mm “pretty boy” budgie button badge.
- Knitting needles and darning needles are not included.
- Add a pair of 4mm Pony aluminium knitting needles for £2.50, or a pack of 2 Pony or Hemline darning needles for £1.50 via the add-ons.
- All kit and parcel packaging is plastic-free and recyclable.
- Your kit will be sent by Royal Mail Tracked 24.

Sparky the Budgie is a hand-knitted bird kit for pet lovers. This beautifully presented kit is handmade in the Scottish Highlands and contains all the yarn and notions you need to knit Sparky the blue budgie - add your own pair of 4mm (UK 8/ US 6) knitting needles, a yarn darning needle and an ordinary sewing needle, and you're ready to go.
Sparky the budgerigar is 23cm tall, about the size of a real budgie. When finished, his little posable wire feet mean he can cling to the object of your choice. He is based on my much-loved childhood budgie companion and brings me many happy memories.
Your kit is presented in a large, stylish gift box with plastic-free, recyclable packaging. It includes a cute Pretty Boy budgie button badge to wear.
