Need to Know
  • A beginner-friendly knitting kit to knit a cuddly pigeon named Bill.
  • Knitted flat on 4mm (UK 8/ US 6) needles; no knitting in the round required.
  • Skills needed: stocking stitch, increasing (inc 1), decreasing (k2tog).
  • Uses Intarsia technique to change yarn colours on some rows.
  • Kit includes: a 4-page printed knitting pattern, 5 colours of soft DK acrylic yarn, polyester toy stuffing, black beads, black cotton thread, white felt, and a Pigeon Club button badge.
  • Knitting needles and darning needles are not included as many knitters already own a pair - but if you'd like to add these to your kit, a pair of 4mm Pony aluminium knitting needles are £2.50, and a pack of 2 Pony or Hemline darning needles are £1.50.
  • All kit and parcel packaging is plastic-free, and recyclable.

A beginner-friendly knitting kit to create a cuddly pigeon, perfect for bird lovers and knitters alike. You may recognise Bill the Pigeon, as the star of the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch TV advert a few years ago.

Bill is based on the friendly flock of pigeons that visit my garden. He is a polite and friendly pigeon, and he’s just the right size to sit in your hand for a comforting squeeze.

Each bird knitting kit is handmade in the Scottish Highlands, and contains all the yarn and notions you need. Simply add your own pair of 4mm knitting needles, a yarn darning needle and an ordinary sewing needle.

Your kit is presented in a large, stylish gift box, with plastic-free, recyclable packaging. It's a thoughtful and unique gift for birdwatchers, knitters, or pigeon enthusiasts. The kit includes a cute Pigeon Club button badge for them to wear, too.
