This relaxing pigeon knit kit is a great way for a bird-lover to rest and recharge after a hard day’s birdwatching.

You may recognise Bill the Pigeon - he was the star of the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch TV advert a few years ago!

Bill is based on the friendly flock of pigeons that visit my garden – these sweet natured and intelligent birds are great fun to watch, and helpfully clear up all the food that the other birds drop under the bird feeders. Pigeons are wonderful!

Bill is a polite and friendly pigeon, and he’s just the right size to sit in your hand for a comforting squeeze.

Each bird knitting kit is handmade in the Scottish Highlands, and will contain all the yarn and notions that you need to knit a cuddly pigeon friend – simply add your own pair of 4mm knitting needles, a yarn darning needle and an ordinary sewing needle, and you're ready to go. No need to order all the different yarns and bits and pieces – you can sit back, relax, and start knitting straight away. It's all there for you!

Is Bill suitable for beginners? Very much so. He is simply knitted flat on a pair of 4mm(UK 8/ US 6) knitting needles, making him an excellent project for an absolute beginner: no need to knit in the round. Basic skills that you need to know: stocking stitch, increasing by knitting into the front and back of a stitch (inc 1) and decreasing by knitting 2 stitches together (k2tog). There’s colour-changing on some rows, so you will need to use Intarsia technique to change yarns mid-row.
