This relaxing pigeon knit kit is a great way for a bird-lover to rest and recharge after a hard day’s birdwatching.

You may recognise Bill the Pigeon - he was the star of the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch TV advert a few years ago!

Bill is based on the friendly flock of pigeons that visit my garden – these sweet natured and intelligent birds are great fun to watch, and helpfully clear up all the food that the other birds drop under the bird feeders. Pigeons are wonderful!

Bill is a polite and friendly pigeon, and he’s just the right size to sit in your hand for a comforting squeeze.

Each bird knitting kit is handmade in the Scottish Highlands, and will contain all the yarn and notions that you need to knit a cuddly pigeon friend – simply add your own pair of 4mm knitting needles, a yarn darning needle and an ordinary sewing needle, and you're ready to go. No need to order all the different yarns and bits and pieces – you can sit back, relax, and start knitting straight away. It's all there for you!

Your pigeon knitting kit is presented in a large, stylish gift box, and bundled up in plastic-free, recyclable packaging. This bird knit kit is the perfect, original gift for a knitter, birder, or pigeon fan - they'll love knitting Bill, and the kit includes a cute Pigeon Club button badge for them to wear, too!

Need to know

Is Bill suitable for beginners? Very much so. He is simply knitted flat on a pair of 4mm(UK 8/ US 6) knitting needles, making him an excellent project for a beginner who knows the basics of knitting: no need to knit in the round. Basic skills that you need to know: stocking stitch, increasing by knitting into the front and back of a stitch (inc 1) and decreasing by knitting 2 stitches together (k2tog). There’s colour-changing on some rows, so you will need to use Intarsia technique to change yarns mid-row.

What's included in your knit kit?

A 4-page printed knitting pattern
5 different colours of high quality, soft DK acrylic yarn
Polyester toy stuffing
Black beads
Black cotton thread
White felt
A Pigeon Club button badge

Knitting needles and darning needles are not included as many knitters already own a pair - but if you'd like to add these to your kit, a pair of 4mm Pony aluminium knitting needles are £2, and a pack of 2 Pony darning needles are £1.

All kit and parcel packaging is plastic-free, and recyclable.

The gift box measures 28cm x 19cm x 8cm.
Bill the Pigeon is 16cm long.

Hello I’m Nicky! Have you ever thought about knitting a puffin, but wouldn’t know where to start? Maybe I can help! I’m a lifelong bird nerd, nature lover, and a self-taught knitter. I design and make fun and easy bird knit kits, using the birds that surround me every day in the Scottish highlands as inspiration. My kits are designed to be relaxing and simple, perfect to inspire a beginner knitter, or as a thoughtful gift to a bird-loving friend.
