The seed that led to the creation of this piece was sown in Bracket Interiors, a favourite junk shop in our home town. A pile of vintage textiles in one corner included Sanderson’s Chelsea, a classic chintz featuring a bouquet of roses that was first introduced in 1957. From this starting point, Geoffrey has created an exuberant display of roses in a bowl inspired by a Sèvres tureen. The relief is boldly and expressively modelled, conveying the lushness and vigour of roses at their high summer peak. The panel was modelled in clay, moulded and cast in plaster of Paris, and then framed. It is available in a Limited Edition of ten.

Need to know

A Bowl of Roses is supplied framed in a simple painted wooden frame. It measures 85cm high x 67cm wide, including the frame.
The frame incorporates 'cut outs' for hanging - this means it can easily be hung on two screws. It can also be hung on mirror plates, if preferred.
Our standard frame colour is Farrow & Ball's Dimity, a warm white which complements the cast.
Our plaster casts are for indoor use. They can be dusted with a soft brush - please don't get them wet.
This piece is cast and framed to order. The lead time is three to four weeks. Please contact us if you need it sooner - if we can help, we will!

Decorative plaster sculpture displayed on a blue wall with houseplant

Geoffrey Preston

Ide, devon

Deep in the rolling hills of Devon, down a winding country lane, you might stumble across our dusty workshop. Most days you’ll find us there too, elbow deep in clay and plaster. Our collection of pretty plaster plaques are sculpted in clay and cast in plaster of Paris. They are inspired by flowers and the natural world, and by the play of light and shade. We make them for the sheer joy of it, and we hope they will bring beauty and cheer to you and your home too.
