This beautifully presented blue tit knit kit is carefully handmade and packed by me in the Scottish Highlands, and contains all the yarn and notions that you need to knit Barbara – just add your own pair of 4mm knitting needles, 2.75mm knitting needles and a yarn darning needle, and you're ready to go. No need to order all the different yarns and bits and pieces – you can sit back, relax, and start knitting straight away. It's all there for you!

Blue tits are one of my favourite garden birds, so I just had to create a knitted version. They are so tiny and colourful, and brighten up my bird feeder!

Is Barbara suitable for beginners? Very much so. She is simply knitted flat, making her an excellent project for a beginner: no need to knit in the round. Basic skills that you need to know: stocking stitch, increasing by knitting into the front and back of a stitch (inc 1) and decreasing by knitting 2 stitches together (k2tog). There’s colour-changing on some rows, so you will need to use Intarsia technique to change yarns mid-row.
