Inspired by the timeless magic of The Nutcracker, this handmade ceramic wall sconce depicts the Nutcracker and the Sugar Plum Fairy framed within a decorative, theatre-style arch. Designed to hold a single tealight, it casts a warm, gentle glow that brings the illustration to life — perfect for cosy winter evenings and festive displays.

Each sconce is made and decorated by hand in my Newport, Wales studio. The blue-and-white imagery is created using traditional lino printing, built up from multiple individual impressions applied directly to the ceramic surface. This slow, hands-on process gives every piece its own character and charm, celebrating craft over uniformity.

Designed to hang on the wall, this sconce makes a beautiful seasonal statement piece and a thoughtful gift for ballet lovers, theatre enthusiasts, and anyone who appreciates handmade ceramics with a story behind them.

Need to know

Made from white earthenware clay with blue underglaze finished with a clear glaze | Fired to cone 06.

The sconce has a small hole to hang it by and will take a standard size tealight / nightlight - real or battery.
Please note - this sconce must be hung on a wall - it will not stand upright on a flat surface.

Each sconce is printed entirely by hand using traditional lino printing techniques. The decoration is built up from 16 separate individual lino impressions, carefully applied one at a time onto the ceramic surface. Because of this process, small variations in line, pressure, alignment and texture are a natural and intentional part of the design. These subtle differences are not faults, but a hallmark of the handmade process — ensuring that no two sconces are ever exactly the same.
If you are looking for a perfectly uniform, mass-produced finish, this piece may not be the right fit.
